Kevin McCartney was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He began pursuing art as a hobby in 2006 and has thoroughly enjoyed working with different media ever since. His professional background is in science and engineering, and a new career in environmental consulting brought him to Buffalo, Wyoming in 2017. Creating pieces with clay and expressing with color are his finest ways to balance a technical career. He is energized by connecting with artistic minds at SAGE and beyond!

 

Kev began working with ceramics in 2014 while living in Fort Collins, Colorado. Classes in handbuilding and later wheel throwing were pillars of his growth as a potter. While there, he developed a fondness for throwing agateware - mixing different clays and having an element of surprise in the result. Currently Kev practices during open studio at The Potters' Depot in Buffalo. He continues to create both functional and decorative pieces with a focus on inspiring wonder.

 

While going through a tough 2020, Kev found solace painting abstract oils with palette knives and paint markers. Presently he is having tons of fun with acrylics by developing "methods" to maximize fluidity and generate spontaneity plus beauty seven feet below where they started.
