SAGE Members $125 | Non-Members $150 SAGE Members use coupon code PASTEL25 at checkout Working from the simplest shapes of shadow and light, learn an expressive way to paint a person in an environment with vivid pastels. Barbara will guide you in her process of finding accurate proportions of the figure and face while experimenting with some exciting methods of painting with pastel. Barbara's daughter will pose in the schoolhouse studio for this weekend workshop. NOTE: This class is not at SAGE but at Carol Berry's Schoolhouse. Students must bring their own supplies. Contact SAGE for details on location and supply list when you sign up. Supplies list: 1)A small set of nupastels (hard pastel sticks) 2)a selection of soft pastels: Each brand has its own unique qualities. My favorite brands are Terry Ludwig, Unison, Diane Townsend, Great American, and Mount Vision - it's important to have some neutral grey colors -a few darks, ie a dark blue, a dark green, a dark purple, a dark red -landscape and/or portrait colors (can be used interchangeably, in my opinion) A few sheets of pastel paper: Uart sanded pastel paper - sometimes it is more cost-effective to get a larger piece you can cut into smaller pieces. I prefer the 320 grade and 400 grade (tooth) papers. Or Pastel premier Or my favorite, Lux Archival * the above are the surfaces I prefer because they can accept an underpainting -with water or isopropyl alcohol Please bring these additional items: A hard smooth panel on which to tape your paper (can be a smooth piece of cardboard, canvas panel, or gatorboard (foamboard)) Tape to secure paper to the above panel (masking tape is OK and artist tape is even better) Optional: some people like to blend pastel colors with foam insulation (
