Call for Artists: Quick Draw @ Virtual 3rd Thursday Festival

Updated: Jun 16, 2020

SAGE Community Arts is seeking artists to participate in monthly quick draws happening in conjunction with the 3rd Thursday Street Festival events this summer.

As announced this week, The Downtown Sheridan Association (DSA) will host the 3rd Thursday Street Festival virtually, with arts and entertainment live streamed on Facebook from The WYO Theater. SAGE volunteered to develop a quick draw component as a part of the arts entertainment lineup during each month’s virtual event.

Artists who wish to participate in the quick draw must read and agree to the guidelines listed below. SAGE will do our best to schedule artists for participation between June and September. Depending on the number of interested artists, we may not be able to provide an opportunity for every artist to participate.

Quick Draw @ Sheridan’s 3rd Thursday Street Festival Guidelines

Dates: June 18, July 16, August 20, September 17

Time: 6:00-8:30pm (includes setup and breakdown) / Quick Draw itself will take place from 6:45-8:00pm

Location: The WYO Theater

Setup: Artists must bring their own supplies and setup a personal workstation suitable to their needs. Artists must be fully set up and ready to begin the quick draw at 6:30pm. A drop cloth is required to protect the floor beneath the workstation. Additional supplies needed may include, but are not limited to art supplies, easel, lamp(s), table(s), and chair. SAGE can supply a chair if requested.

Quick Draw: Artists will have from 6:45-8:00pm to create their quick draw work. Artists may come prepared with studies and a wash or under-painting on your canvas but cannot have completed any other work on the quick draw artwork beforehand. Artists should be confident in their ability to complete a work in the time allotted, as the quick draw artwork will be auctioned off following the event. Artists should also be prepared to interact and discuss their art with the filming crew and other participating artists while working. Artists may bring business cards or other promotional materials to help get their name out through participation in the event.

Between 8:00pm and 8:30pm (the end of the 3rd Thursday Street Festival event), the artist must prepare the art to be ready to hang with a frame and/or hanging hardware. If the artist chooses not to provide a frame, the painting must be gallery-wrapped canvas with hanging hardware installed.

Auction of Artwork: Works created during the quick draw event will be silent auctioned with proceeds benefiting the artist and one of SAGE Community Arts, DSA and The WYO Theater (nonprofit benefiting will vary each month). The artist will receive 50% of auction proceeds.

Quick draw works will be displayed at SAGE during the silent auction for a week following the 3rd Thursday event. Final bids will be accepted at 5:30pm on the 4th Thursday of the month.

Please email Kendra Heimbuck at director@sageart.org or call SAGE at 307-674-1970 if you are interested in participating as an artist in the Quick Draw.
