5:00 – 7:00pm | Community & Artists’ Reception at SAGE Community Arts

21 West Brundage Street, Sheridan, Wyoming

The public is invited to a new Plein Air Showcase exhibition in the SAGE Community Arts Fine Art Gallery, curated by Liz Howell and Linda Hartman. The exhibition will be held at SAGE Community Arts at 21 West Brundage Street in Sheridan, Wyoming from September 11th – October 9th, 2019.

Plein Air Showcase is sponsored in part by funding from the Wyoming Arts Council, as well as Alphagraphics.

The exhibition features thirty-five paintings by twenty-two SAGE Artist Members from throughout Wyoming. Mediums represented include oil, watercolor, and pastel.

“The style of painting referred to as Plein Air Painting or en Plein Air, is basically the act of creating a painting in the open air,” said co-curator, Linda Hartman. “Prior to the introduction of artist paint in portable lightweight tin tubes, and the development of portable field easels, artists interested in the landscape would make field sketches and develop these into paintings in their studio.

“Today, plein air painters still seek that pure color and light. The plein air painter must work quickly laying down strokes of color to capture not just the changing light, but also the mood of the subject.”

Many of the paintings in the showcase were painted in and around the Sheridan area. “The landscapes here in Wyoming are an inspiring variety for the plein air painter, as is evident in this show. The land, the dramatic skies, seasonal colors, vast to intimate scenes of beauty, and representations of those who work in this landscape, are all present in these works.”

A virtual catalogue of the show is available at www.artinsheridan.com/pleinair.

All paintings in the Showcase are available for purchase.
