Service Description

The SAGE Member Tool Kit Series is a six-part professional development series designed to support artists at every stage of their creative journey. These one-hour workshops and lectures offer practical tools, insider knowledge, and approachable guidance to help artists better navigate exhibitions, opportunities, and presentation of their work. Held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month beginning in February, each session focuses on a specific topic—from preparing artwork and submissions to understanding gallery processes and promoting yourself as an artist. Whether you’re just starting out or refining a long-established practice, the Tool Kit Series is designed to help you build confidence, clarity, and momentum. SAGE 101: Membership Perks, Art in the Wild & Gallery Procedures An overview of what it means to be a SAGE member and how to make the most of it. Learn about member benefits, opportunities for showing work “in the wild,” how exhibitions are run, and get your questions answered in an open Q&A format. Headshots & Writing an Artist Statement Learn what makes a strong artist headshot and how to write an artist statement that clearly communicates your work without overthinking it. This session focuses on clarity, authenticity, and making your work accessible to audiences, jurors, and galleries. CVs & Bios: What’s the Difference? Artist CVs and bios serve different purposes—and this session breaks it all down. Learn what to include, how to format each, and when to use them so you’re prepared for submissions, exhibitions, and professional opportunities. Photographing Your Work with Ashly Cooper Strong images are essential. Photographer Ashly Cooper shares practical tips for photographing artwork, including lighting, backgrounds, framing, and simple setups you can use at home to create clean, professional images of your work. Submitting Your Work: Calls for Art, Proposals & CaFÉ Demystify the submission process. Learn how to submit work for exhibitions, write inquiries and solo show proposals, navigate CaFÉ, and discover reliable resources for finding calls for art and exhibition opportunities. Framing & Hanging Essential From choosing the right frame to proper hanging techniques, this session covers the basics that help your work look professional and exhibition-ready. Ideal for artists preparing work for galleries, pop-ups, or juried shows.
